About Me
I am 54 years of age and am based at Portland, Dorset, but travel nationwide. My early background is in carpentry, City & Guilds qualified. I have trained at the International Boatbuilding Technology College situated in Lowestoft, Suffolk, and I am an affiliated member of the Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association (YDSA). I am also a member of the British Marine Federation as well as the Chesil Marine Network. I have many years of experience within the maritime industry. I was employed for five years by the Department of the Environment as a professional diver after successfully completing an Ministry of Defence Salvage Course at Rosyth Dockyard, Scotland. My duties included surveying of underwater structures, reporting, and remedial work within Portland Harbour, Dorset. My boat building experience is mainly in the repairing and fitting out of bare FRP (Fibreglass Reinforced Plastic) hulls. However, I have also had some unusual projects such as building a timber working barge for an oyster farm in Weymouth. I have more recently finished a contract with Sunseeker International in Poole, Dorset, working as a ship's carpenter fitting out their Yacht 87 model. I have owned and maintained many boats over the years, both for work and for pleasure. My current boat is a Grampian 34 which is a yawl rigged ketch and was bought as a project now nearing completion. I also part own a very useful Dory-hulled 23 foot work boat. In my leisure time I am a keen yachtsman and a member of the RYA. I am practical, down to earth, and very approachable and am always delighted to hear about your boat.
